Sherlocks Glass & Dispensary at 3801 Hillsborough St holds a 4.9-star rating across more than 880 Google reviews. Several Raleigh shops hold a perfect 5.0, including TotalHerbalCare on Avent Ferry, Oak City Dispensary and several Cannapa stores, but none matches Sherlocks on breadth. They carry THCa flower, edibles, vapes, concentrates, and one of the Triangle's best selections of American-made glass pipes and accessories. Open 10am–8pm daily, right near NC State's campus on Hillsborough Street.

Best Late Night: NC Hemp Shoppe, Glenwood

Need something after midnight? NC Hemp Shoppe on Glenwood Ave is open until 3am on Fridays and Saturdays, and until 1am on Thursdays and Sundays. It now opens at 10am rather than the old 2pm start, so it works as a daytime stop too. They stock THCa, Delta-9, Delta-8, CBD, concentrates, glass, and accessories.

Their original Creedmoor Rd location, voted Best of Raleigh, keeps more traditional hours (9am–9pm most days, until 10pm Thu–Sat).

Best 24/7: Hempie's (2 Locations)

Hempie's is the only dispensary in Raleigh that never closes. Their Litchford Rd location serves North Raleigh, while the Lake Wheeler Rd location covers the south side. Both are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Modern Apotheca at 8604 Falls of Neuse Rd offers free same-day delivery across the Raleigh area. They're also home to The Burnt Pot Cafe, so you can grab a coffee while browsing CBD and THCa products. Open 11am–7pm daily.

Most Unique Experience: Wake-N-Bakery

Wake-N-Bakery at 1213 Hillsborough St isn't your typical dispensary. It's a cannabis cafe blending THC-infused coffee and baked goods with a retail dispensary, Chicago-style meets Southern hospitality. If you want to actually sit down with a hemp-infused drink or pastry, it is the only full cannabis cafe and bakery in Raleigh.

What Should You Look for in a Dispensary?

The best dispensary for you depends on what you care about. Here's what separates a good shop from a great one.

Third-party lab testing is non-negotiable. Any reputable dispensary should have Certificates of Analysis (COAs) available for every product. These confirm potency, verify that THC levels are within legal limits, and screen for pesticides, heavy metals, and residual solvents. If a shop can't show you COAs, walk out.

Staff knowledge matters more than you'd think. A good budtender doesn't just ring you up, they ask what you're looking for, explain the differences between cannabinoids like THCa and Delta-8, and recommend products based on your experience level. Shops like Trek CBD and Modern Apotheca are known for this.

Product variety is worth considering too. Some shops specialize in flower, others in edibles or topicals. Check if they carry the product category you want before making the trip. Sherlocks has the broadest selection overall.

Is It Legal to Buy from a Dispensary in Raleigh?

Yes. Every dispensary listed here sells hemp-derived products that are legal under both federal law (the 2018 Farm Bill) and North Carolina state law (Session Law 2022-32, enacted via SB 455). Products must contain no more than 0.3% Delta-9 THC on a dry weight basis. You don't need a medical card, prescription, or special license to walk in and buy.

There is no state-level age requirement for purchasing hemp products in NC today. That said, many shops voluntarily enforce a 21+ policy.

North Carolina status, October 10, 2026: HB 328, the state hemp crackdown, passed the Senate in July but still awaits a House vote, which can come in the reconvened sessions between October 26 and December 18. Today North Carolina sets no minimum age for hemp products, though many shops card at 21. Details in our NC hemp bill tracker.

One thing to know: a federal law signed in November 2025 (P.L. 119-37) redefines hemp based on total THC content and adds a 0.4mg total THC per container cap, which will restrict most Delta-8, THCa, and Delta-9 products starting December 11, 2026.

Update, October 10, 2026: The federal hemp deadline referenced below has shifted. H.R. 6500 became Public Law 119-103 on September 2, 2026, and its Section 2019 delays most of the new hemp definition, including the 0.4mg per container THC cap and the total-THC test that counts THCa, to December 11, 2026.
